Lumary WiFi Solar Water Timer

As an avid gardening enthusiast, I've always been on the lookout for a smart watering device that could truly free up my hands. While there are many products on the market, few can perfectly combine solar power, smart control, and high durability. This Lumary solar smart water timer has completely revolutionized my gardening experience. Firstly, its solar charging technology is incredibly efficient; the 30% conversion rate coupled with that 550F super capacitor ensures a stable power supply even during consecutive cloudy or rainy days. I no longer have to worry about batteries dying or struggling with power cords. The adjustable solar panel design is an added bonus, allowing me to optimize it based on sun exposure for the best charging effect.

Secondly, the smart control feature is what I love most. Through the app, I can easily set up complex watering schedules, precise down to the minute and water volume, and remotely monitor the watering status. What's even more surprising is that it doesn't require an additional gateway, connecting directly via WiFi, which simplifies the setup process. I've had it installed for about a month to automate watering of the plants in my condominium's terrace planters and it's been working well. While it comes with some extra fittings to connect drip irrigation hoses, they might not work for every setup. I took the unit to my local hardware store and found a perfect match for the water incoming side in order to connect my 1/2" irrigation tubing. To get started I plugged it in to start charging the battery. It only charged to around 65%, but that's ok as it charged to 100% using the solar panel and has held at that level. Connecting to Wi-Fi required that I set my phone to use 2.4GHz during setup as it won't work over 5GHz. Setting up scheduled timer watering is initially confusing as it uses numbers for days. 1 is Monday, through 7 for Sunday. There's no option to set the time to start the watering, so it kicks off immediately after midnight. There are cheaper black colored options available on Amazon, but the unboxing video I saw showed it didn't include the extra hose fittings which I needed for my drip irrigation setup.

I got this because we currently use several battery WiFi howe timers. We have to change batteries usually a couple times a year, and to control them remotely requires a separate wifi hub.

I liked that this has wifi built in, and includes a built in solar panel to charge the internal battery.

The body twists to adjust the angle of the panel. The side is hard to twist, and it locks securely into place to ensure it won’t move out of position on its own.

When twisted, a USC-C charging port is revealed between the sections which is covered by a rubber plug to seal it from rain/debris.

The timer accessories include teflong tape to secure connections, a quick connect fitting, and a standard thread adapter, all a bonus.

This timer has the majority of the features that I could possibly want.

Pros:
No AA or AAA batteries to replace every 6 months to a year.

It uses Solar Charging and USB-C Charging.

Built in solar panel can be adjusted so that it is tilted upwards. (See picture).
Unit appears to be very solidly manufactured.

WiFi connection without having to have a separate hub.
I have not had any issues with the communication since connecting and mounting the timer outside.

Can be implemented into my Alexa System.

Comes with its own software (Lumary) for programming with various features such as the ability to program multiple schedules for day of week, start time and either duration in time or amount of water volume.

Great Tech Support. They responded within 24 hours on each of my 3 different emails. Two were with technical questions and one was a more generic question.

Cons:
It took over 10 attempts for the unit to connect to my WiFi. This unit requires 2.4 GHz WiFi. My router provides both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz It kept seeing the 5 GHz but not the 2.5. It did not connect until I moved to a different room than where my router is located, and flipped open the solar panel. (Not sure if either of these is why it finally connected).

Some terminology in the Lumary software could use improvement.

Improvement in the Scheduling portion of the software would be the ability to add # of weeks as an option for watering. Example on Wednesday every other week. However, this can be done in my Alexa software, so not a deal killer.

Overall:
If tech support had not been so prompt to respond, I would have rated it 4.0 stars because of the software. So, I rated it 5.0, but I would have rated this 4.5 stars if that option were available.

I have already recommended this product to a friend of mine.

I think highly of my Lumary lights. Lumary seems to have an ability to make things that are equal to the market leaders in quality, but not as expensive. So I love this smart water connection which irrigates based both on time of watering and volume of water dispensed. There's no need for a hub. The controller works by direct attachment to your home wifi. Nor is there any need for AC or disposable batteries due to the capable solar panel connected directly to the device.

USB-C charging is possible via a port in the side. You must have a 2.4ghz wifi connection. It will not work with 5ghz. When used with Lumary's proprietary smart app, local weather is shown and it is possible to delay watering on days when there is rain. Lumary also sells a four-zone version of this watering controller for those with more complex watering needs. Right now the four-zone controller isn't available on Amazon, but I suspect it will be soon.
