I recently received this "Lumary Smart Hanging Shop Light for Garage w/Motion Sensor Remote, Bluetooth UFO LED High Bay Light 200W 120-277V Metal, Work with Alexa via Hub, Brightness 1-100% 5000K for Workshop Warehouse Gym" and after getting some assistance from Amazon's online customer support, I'm pretty pleased with this light and I'm happy to finally be able to see in the garage!
I was unfamiliar with this brand, "Lumary," when I came across this light, but I was looking for a better overhead light option for my garage and this looked like it might fit the bill. The previous light was a single incandescent bulb, which put out about 800 lumens. It gave me enough light to navigate the garage after sundown, but not really enough to see what I'm doing beyond that. This light, on the other hand, can put out 32,000 lumens - enough to blind a guy, at least temporarily, when he's setting this up for the first time. (Take that as a legit warning, by the way - if you're a silly human and turn this light on while facing the lamp, you will definitely have an illuminating experience!)
Setup was, eventually, remarkably easy and I take at least partial responsibility for the difficulty I encountered trying to set up this light. I was mid-project with a couple of other things when the lamp arrived, and knowing I would be focused elsewhere, I did little more than unpack its pieces/parts and lay them all out to verify everything was ready for setup the next day. The next morning, I checked the instructions and saw that the installation of the motion sensor was one of the only things to "install," but because it is a glass-like dome and physically at the lowest point on the light, I didn't want to physically install it and then set the whole unit down on top of it, so I held off. I'd already read that the motion sensor was a new addition to this lamp's model, and since I didn't want to damage it, I thought I'd go ahead and do the network setup and THEN manually add the sensor, just before hanging it from the ceiling.
I plugged the lamp in and tried to get the remote to respond, but nothing happened. I looked in the manual and it said to setup the app and log in. I'd already done that, but the lamp wouldn't go into its pairing mode no matter what I tried. Apparently, you can't put the lamp in pairing mode unless you have the remote control working and paired to the lamp. But the remote would not respond at all, so I couldn't pair it. This is what eventually led me to looking for help online via Amazon's support chat. They were able to link me to a couple of helpful videos which explained the setup process much better than the manual.
Basically, in order to use the lamp, you have to set it up in the app first. The app won't see it if the lamp hasn't already been associated within the app, and the app won't let you set up the lamp until it's in pairing mode, which can be entered only via the remote. The remote CANNOT be recognized by the lamp until the sensor is physically attached. Yes, this is one of the firs steps in the book. No, you should not skip it to do it later. Believe me! XD Anyway, without the motion sensor, the remote is unable to talk to the lamp. This really, really needed to be stated in the book somewhere at the very beginning. I'm sure it's abnormal to NOT set up the motion sensor right away, but it would be super cool if they explained the reason its absolutely a required step.
Now that I have it set up, it's working great and I have more light in the garage than I could possibly need. The hardware itself feels very sturdy - industrial even - and seems like it will hold up to the extreme temperatures my garage will provide it. The light, despite being LED, does get pretty warm - hot enough that I was concerned about it leaning against the fabric of the couch while I was trying to get it network-connected. I do think the setup could be considerably easier, but honestly, it's all about clearly written instructions. These instructions are NOT bad, but they do gloss over (or neglect mentioning) the necessity of the motion sensor piece being directly tied to ALL other communication. Just follow the steps. In order. And don't do what I did with the "Meh, I'll go back and connect that piece at the end." It just won't work that way! :)
This lamp was priced at $179.99 when I placed my order, but is discounted 6% as I type this review, making it only $169.99. On top of that, there's a $30 coupon, so if you're in the market for a VERY bright, single light that can tie in to your smart home's features, definitely give this one a look. Setup could have been easier, but if you do them in order, you should be good to go!
